For years, the search for new, selective compounds has been one of the most time-consuming and resource-hungry processes in pharmaceutical development. Over 10 years ago, 4SC researchers began to use intelligent computer processes to replace the resource-draining aspect of mass screening. Today, with the help of the 4SCan® technology, new candidates can be extracted from the large 4SC molecule databases in a matter of hours – as, for example, Google can filter out specific information from astronomical amounts of text. Integrated into 4SC’s experienced medicinal chemistry group new hits and leads can be identified and optimised quickly and cost effectively. The virtual high-throughput screening (vHTS) developed by 4SC is forms an irreplaceable fundamental technology for discovering new drugs.
Nothing can take the place of the innovative potential of a medicinal chemist, however. Many attempts have been made to automate the lead optimisation process – largely in vain. 4SC has established a strong medicinal chemistry team which has brought several drug candidates into clinical development in a few months. With cutting-edge analytics, ADMET screening and in vivo pharmacokinetics, the drugs of tomorrow are being designed and developed in 4SC’s laboratories.
